Flags in Your Yard?
Missouri law requires anyone who plans to dig up ground for any reason (i.e. building fences, cleaning ditches or installing pipes or electric wire) to notify owners or operators of underground utilities at least two working days in advance of the work. If there are flags in or around your yard that means someone – either a neighbor or someone planning to do construction work near your yard – has called Missouri One Call Systems to have all nearby utilities located. The company that locates these utilities will come out and mark all the utility location in the area so that whoever is digging will not dig up a utility line.
Missouri One-Call Systems (MOCS) has added a helpful feature to their website so that you can easily find out what’s going on. “Ticket Search” now gives you, the general public, the ability to research utility-locating work in your area, who’s digging in a specific area, and what they are doing.

The underground utilities will be marked according to the following color codes:
Red = Electric
Blue = Water
Green = Sewer
Yellow = Gas, Oil, Steam
Orange = Telecommunications
Pink = Temporary Survey
White = Proposed Excavation
Purple = Reclaimed Water
