HBPW Invites Public Comments on Stormwater Management Plan

April 18, 2018 – Hannibal, MO – The Hannibal Board of Public Works is seeking public comments on the City of Hannibal’s Stormwater Management Plan.

The City of Hannibal is subject to regulations put in place by the Federal Clean Water Act and Missouri Clean Water Law, and must follow guidelines found in the Missouri State MS4 National Pollution Discharge Elimination System Operating Permit. The permit authorizes the discharge of stormwater from the MS4 to Waters of the U.S. As part of the 2016 permitting requirements, the City is required to submit an updated Stormwater Management Plan.

“We are encouraging public comments so this plan can accurately reflect community needs and concerns to the fullest extent possible at this time, stated Andrea Campbell, Stormwater Coordinator.”

Citizens can review the current Stormwater Management Plan online HERE. The plan can also be reviewed in person at HBPW’s business office, or City Hall at the City Clerks’ Office.

The Stormwater Management Plan describes various programs used to meet requirements of the City’s MS4 National Pollution Discharge Elimination System operating permit including:

  • Collecting field data for the development of an accurate stormwater drainage system map
  • Developing City stormwater guidelines
  • Identifying and eliminating pollutant discharges into the storm sewer system and waterways
  • Providing education and outreach services to the community.

Written comments can be submitted in person at the HBPW business office, or emailed to stormwater@hannibalbpw.org. Submission deadline is 4:30pm Tuesday May 1st.

For additional information, please visit the HBPW website at www.hannibalbpw.org.
